Davies-Balch Hope Annual Scholarship for African American Students

The Davies-Balch Hope Annual Scholarship for African American Students was established in 2019 in memory of Sandra Douglas. The donors wish to provide financial assistance to Central Valley African American students attending Fresno Pacific University who have a desire to serve and contribute to the bettering of their community. This scholarship is purposed to support African American Students' academic success. All applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay that demonstrates aptitude, desire, commitment, and tenacious desire to succeed.

Eligibility

  • Preference will be given to first generation African American students enrolled in any FPU degree program with preference given to education, healthcare, pre-health sciences or nursing.
  • Highest preference should be given to African American students who specifically want to work on health disparities related to African American preterm birth and infant and maternal mortality.
  • Students whose personal character reflects the moral and ethical standards of Fresno Pacific University.
  • Student-athlete(s) must meet NCAA Division II legislation for Athletic Aid.
  • Students who have a commitment to serve the African American community in the San Joaquin Valley.

Special Criteria

If students do not meet the criteria of wanting to work onĀ  health disparities related to African American preterm birth and infant and maternal mortality the award would go to a first generation African American student enrolled in any FPU degree program with preference given to education, healthcare, pre-health sciences or nursing.

Essay Instructions

All applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay that demonstrates aptitude, desire, commitment, and tenacious desire to succeed.

Letter of Recommendation Requirement

This scholarship does not require a letter of recommendation.
